NEW MEMBERS INDUCTION AUGUST 4 2022

What a great evening! We inducted 5 new members into the club on August 4 at our monthly meeting at the Spicewood Community Center. Shown from left: Mary Moore (club president), Carolyn Hughes, Lori Newman, Vito Marcantonio, Kay Norden, Michael Moore, Gary Fuchs (Past District Governor for District 2S3). Gary was kind enough to join us for the inductions.

Three of the new members were "recruited" at the 4th of July event by Lions Marlowe MacIntyre and Fred Elizalde. Way to go guys! Kay Norden and Michael Moore are the spouses of existing members Tim Norden (our Treasurer) and Mary Moore (our President).

2022 4TH OF JULY PARADE AND PICNIC!

We had a great turnout for our first 4th of July event in 3 years! There were 24 parade entrants ranging from a Model T to a dump-truck! Prizes were awarded to three parade entries. Despite the heat, everyone enjoyed the hot dogs and cold drinks at the end of the parade, while they listened to Samantha Miller who provided some excellent musical entertainment!

Special thanks to our generous sponsors:

-Paleface Grocery

ANNUAL LIONS KIDS CAMP CLEANUP

On April 30 we took part in one of the three annual Kids Camp cleanup days at the camp in Kerrville. The Texas Lions established the camp in 1948 and after 5 years of fund-raising and construction, the camp finally opened in 1953. The camp serves children with special medical conditions and type I diabetic children. Our group's task this year was cleaning the mess hall windows (there are a lot of windows in this mess hall ya'll!). Shown above left to right are Dan Reudelhuber, Sherry Reudelhuber and Mary Moore from our club, and Milton Dare the Director of Development for the Texas Lions Camp. Milton was the fourth member of our cleaning team. Not shown but also a hardworking member of our team is Michael Moore, Mary's husband. Mary's dogs Bo and Duke kept us all company.

MARBLE FALLS SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER DONATION

Our club made a $1,000 donation to the Marble Falls Senior Activity Center on Friday March 25th. We had been contacted by the center asking if we could make a donation to help them offset the cost of recent maintenance work done on the center (new roof, indoor painting and new flooring throughout). We were happy to be able to help the center pay for this work. Shown from left to right: Mary Moore/Secretary, Dan Reudelhuber/President, Sherry Reudelhuber/board member, Bob Quigley (President Emeritus for the center) and Carl DeLine/member at the center. Carl was the one who originally contacted us.

While we were at the center, we were shown all the improvements that had been made. The center worked with a local contractor to do the work. Everything looked really first class!

CHRISTMAS FOR KIDS

Every year we work with the Spicewood Helping Hands Ministry and the Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center to provide Christmas gifts to needy children in the Highland Lakes communities. In December 2021 we delivered gifts for 20 children through the above organizations.

WARM COATS FOR KIDS 2021 - DECEMBER 3 AND 4 - BLAZING STAR MASONIC LODGE MARBLE FALLS

We held our annual "Warm Coats for Kids" event again this year at the Masonic Lodge in Marble Falls. We collected over 100 coats throughout the community and were able to give away 45 or so to needy families. Some were also donated to the St. Fredrick Baptist Church in Marble Falls. Coats were donated at several collection boxes that were situated in Meadowlakes, Horseshoe Bay and Marble Falls. It's heartwarming to see the smiles on the kids when they get a warm coat! And we are very grateful to the Masons for letting us use their facility!

WALKWAY OF LIGHTS 2021 - NOVEMBER 27, 28 AND 29 - MARBLE FALLS

We manned the concession stand for 3 nights this year and served hundreds and hundreds of people. We had popcorn, hot chocolate, coffee and cookies. It was pretty successful as we raised over $2,000 for the club. And it was fun too!!!

VISION SCREENING - MARBLE FALLS BACK-TO-SCHOOL BLAST

We participated in the Marble Falls Back-to-School Blast on August 7 and performed vision screening on 177 children at the event. Bob Richards, Jim Chapman (Kingsland Lions), Dan Reudelhuber, Sherry Reudelhuber and Linda Eicher spent the morning at the event. This is an annual event when free backpacks, school supplies, shoes, socks, haircuts, vaccinations, dental exams, vision screenings and more are provided for the kids. The event is open to any Pre-K thru 12th Grade student regardless of the school district he/she attends.

VISION SCREENING FOR HEAD START

Our club conducted vision screening for the Opportunities for Burnet and Williamson Counties Head Start program on July 21 and 22 at two local elementary schools. On July 21 we conducted screening at Highland Lakes Elementary, and on July 22 we did screenings at Marble Falls Elementary. In all, we screened 55 children over the two days.

Lions Linda Eicher (Head of Vision), Dan Reudelhuber, Sherry Reudelhuber and Mary Moore (not shown) were at Highland Lakes Elementary on July 21.

Lions Sherry Reudelhuber, Dan Reudelhuber and Mary Moore were at Marble Falls Elementary on July 22.

TEXAS LIONS CAMP CLEANUP MAY 1 2021

Our club participated in the Texas Lions Camp work day on May 1. A group of four helped out by thoroughly cleaning and organizing the arts and crafts classrooms area. Shown from left to right are Kay Norden, Tim Norden (club Treasurer), Mary Moore (club Secretary) and Michael Moore.

The Texas Lions Camp offers sessions for handicapped children, children with Type 1 diabetes, and children with Down syndrome. The camp sessions are free and are financed by Lions clubs throughout the state and by individual contributions.

WARM COATS FOR KIDS 2020

Our 2020 Coats for Kids distribution was held on Saturday November 14 at the Masonic Lodge in Marble Falls. This year we gave away over 100 warm coats to needy children and families. Gently used clean coats were collected throughout the local community. This is a signature event for our club that we do every year at this time.

2020 CITY-WIDE GARAGE SALE IN MARBLE FALLS

Our club participated in the City-Wide Garage Sale in Marble Falls on Saturday October 24. Nine members of the club were there to help and sell used items. Over $680 was raised to help fund those charitable organizations we support in our served communities in the Highland Lakes. Photo courtesy of The Highlander in Marble Falls.

HIGHWAY CLEANUP

On August 8 several members of the club cleaned our adopted 2-mile stretch of highway 71 in Spicewood. Six Lions participated. From left, Sherry Reudelhuber, Dan Reudelhuber, Frank Esparza, Mary Moore and Gail Johnson. Jane Ford helped as well but is not shown here. LIONS SERVE!!

And, Mary Moore's neighbor and her children were gracious enough to help as well. It was much appreciated!
